Why this matters

A skill is a saved set of instructions the assistant loads whenever it's relevant. Unlike a prompt, you don't have to remember to paste it.

The 20-minute experiment

1. 1Think of one thing you correct every single time, such as 'always use British spelling'
2. 2In Claude, open Settings, then Capabilities, then Skills, and click Create skill
3. 3Give it a plain name and write the instruction in three lines or fewer
4. 4Start a brand new chat, ask for something related, and see whether it obeys without being told

Write a short skill definition for this recurring instruction. Keep it under three lines and make it testable.

• Skill created and saved
• Fresh chat opened with no mention of the rule
• The rule was followed anyway
