Why this matters

Switching tools normally means starting from scratch. It doesn't have to. Everything the old assistant learnt about you can be exported in five minutes.

The 20-minute experiment

1. 1In ChatGPT open Settings, then Personalisation, then Custom instructions, and copy what's there
2. 2In a ChatGPT chat, ask it to summarise how you like to be written for, based on your history
3. 3Open Claude, go to Settings, then Profile, and paste both in as your personal preferences
4. 4Ask Claude the same question you asked ChatGPT yesterday and compare the two replies

Based on our conversations, summarise how I like you to write for me: tone, length, vocabulary and things I never want.

• Existing instructions copied out
• A written summary of your preferences produced
• Both pasted into the new assistant and saved
• The first answer in the new tool sounded like the old one
